The Duchess of Sussex isa said to have given a secret fashion nod to her sister-in-law Princess Kate whilst making a public appearance at a hospital last month.
Meghan Markle has been pictured reading to patients and staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) as part of a literacy campaign. She joined the hospital’s month-long campaign, Make March Matter last month (March 21) as she read books including Rosie the Riveter, Pete the Cat, and I Saw a Cat. Mum of two Meghan was pictured alongside the children with many laughing and enjoying the stories as part of the CHLA Literally Healing scheme.
Yet her outfit including a white floral dress by Oscar de la Renta, ballet flats and natural makeup is thought to have been “extending an olive branch” to sister-in-law Kate as the royal rift is potentially looking to end.

Fashion editor Amber Graafland told Fabulous: “The Royal Family are renowned for using their clothing to convey subtle messages and Meghan has learned to be adept at using her clothes to shift perspectives. The Duchess was clearly sending a message with her floral ensemble.”
Graafland continued: “Synonymous with purity, optimism and friendship, flowers represent growth and bloom, and rather poignantly, flowers symbolise forgiveness.” She then questioned whether the idea of forgiveness could be from Meghan to Kate, especially in light of the Princess of Wales‘ recent health news. Graafland added that the Duchess of Sussex is “keen to put events of the past few years behind her” and to move forward and rebuild.
Tensions between Meghan and husband Prince Harry with the rest of the royal family have been strained since the couple took a step back from the Royal Family in 2020. In recent years Meghan and Harry have made comments about their experience in The Firm, which has not always portrayed other members of the Royal Family well, including Prince William and Princess Kate.
In the past, Meghan and Kate were revealed to have fallen out and had disagreements, with Prince Harry detailing tensions around his and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, with a fallout over bridesmaid dresses between Meghan and Kate.
In one entry in autobiography Spare, Harry revealed personal text messages exchanged between Meghan and Kate amid the disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress. According to Harry, Princess Kate messaged Meghan to complain that the Charlotte’s dress did not fit correctly. According to the book, Kate wrote: “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on a home.”
After an exchange back and forth where Meghan pointed out there was a tailor on standby to alter dresses for the bridesmaids, Kate’s cool response reportedly left the future Duchess of Sussex upset and Meghan was reportedly left “sobbing on the floor”.
