Marcus Rashford slammed for ‘walking around’ as Man Utd leave Jamie Redknapp heartbroken

by moneylab

Jamie Redknapp couldn’t hide his frustration with Marcus Rashford after Manchester United’s lacklustre draw at Brentford – accusing him of just “walking around”.

United were dominated by the Bees yet somehow got away with a share of the spoils on Saturday evening. A 96th minute goal from Mason Mount looked to have won it for Erik ten Hag’s men despite a dismal display, but three minutes later Kristoffer Ajer finally found the net for the hosts with an equaliser.

That was the least they deserved after a remarkable 31 attempts on Andre Onana’s goal, while also having 70 touches in the United penalty area. Both Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo hit the woodwork too, with Toney missing a plethora of chances.

Redknapp, working on the game for Sky Sports, blasted United’s feeble display, before ripping into Rashford’s contribution.

Redknapp said: “Man Utd fans would have really been looking forward to tonight after the brilliant result against Liverpool [a 4-3 victory in the FA Cup]. You thought it might turn their season around.

“They have been so bad tonight. I cannot believe the lack of effort, spark, desire to win individual battles, to make things happen in that team. I’m watching Marcus Rashford walking around like it’s a bit of fun out there.

“It’s the Premier League! I’ve been amazed by how poor Man Utd have been. There was a real desire about Brentford. They’ve been better in every single area.”

Redknapp reserved extra criticism for England international Rashford, who has failed to make a major impact on the current campaign, having struck more than 30 goals during Ten Hag’s debut season last term. Once more at the Gtech Community Stadium he was largely on the periphery of things, before being substituted after failing to impress.

“In the front part of the pitch, Hojlund is working on scraps all the time. Rashford is a player with so much talent, God-given talent, he’s got everything.”

“He’s got an incredible physique, he can run, he can dribble, he can shoot, he got 30 goals last year… I look at the player right now and he looks like he’s not enjoying his football.

“For me it’s quite heart-breaking because they’ve got so much talent. I want to see more.”
