Rhea Ripley Def. Becky Lynch

Triple H opened WrestleMania 40 after a new “Then. Now. Forever” opening video package.

In a surprise to nobody, fans booed Becky Lynch during the ring introductions and chanted “Mami!” during the match.

Fans were into this match, but due to being in an outdoor stadium, many of the cheers and boo’s went up into the sky and therefore weren’t as loud as they would have een inside a dome.

Ripley made it a point to slam Lynch right onto the PRIME PRIME 0.0% energy logo several times, a spot that I guarantee will be repeated throughout the night. Thankfully, the spot received a loud reaction.

Fans really bit on the first nearfall of the night when Ripley kicked out of the Manhandle Slam. The spot led to dueling chants for Lynch and Ripley. The second nearfall—when Lynch kicked out of the Annihilator—received an even bigger response.

There was a great spot where Lynch and Ripley flipped over the top rope while Ripley had Lynch on her shoulders. Lynch then hit the electric chair drop on the outside.

Ripley vs. Lynch received very well deserved “this is awesome” chants late into the match.

Awesome Truth, Waller And Theory Win Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder Match

There was a long video package of Pretty Deadly (big poo) previewing this tag team Ladder Match. During The Miz and R-Truth’s entrance, however, R-Truth’s audio got cut off midway through. The jumbotron didn’t show the action ofr the first several minutes.

R-Truth hit Cena’s comeback and counted his own pinfall, thinking this was a match that could end in pinfall or submission.

Austin Theory and Grayson Waller won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships to a loud score of boos. Waller was promptly power bombed through the ladder by the New Catch Republic.

Bafflingly, when Kofi Kingston had a chance to retrieve the second set of belts, he chose to dive onto a sea of Superstars outside.

Truth teased retrieving the titles to loud cheers,, but was thwarted by JD McDonagh. McDonagh was then pushed off the ladder through a set of tables for his troubles.

Damian Priest and The Miz screwed up a chokeslam spot off the ladder, which took the crowd out of it for a second before they chanted “we want Truth!” Truth responded by scaling the ladders and snatching the blue belts for the biggest pop of the night to this point.

Six-Pack Ladder Match Grade: B

Rey Mysterio And Andrade Def. Santos Escobar And Dominik Mysterio

Fans didn’t react much to the entrance for newcomer Santos Escobar (give it time), but they exploded in boo’s for Dominik Mysterio.

Andrade was able to get fans into this match with his impressive brand of Lucha Libre, including his patented back-to-backflips.

Zelina Vega just barely connected with a backflip to the outside on Elektra Lopez. This brought out Carlito, who did not turn heel.

Two masked individuals hit the ring to help Rey and Escobar. They turned out to be Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.

Escobar and Dominik vs. Andrade and Rey Grade: B-

Jey Uso Def. Jimmy Uso

There was a great video package before the match. The first half of the package made it seem as if The Usos were going to get back together, with both Usos taking turns cutting a promo about being their brother’s keeper.

Lil Wayne performed “A Milli” live during Jey Uso’s entrance.

Jimmy Uso vs. Jey Uso was sponsored by Dude Wipes, as these logos appeared on teh ring apron and around the ring. There was a predictable, but great, “Yeet! No yeet!” exchange.

Fans started showing some signs of fatigue during this match, though they did get into the high spots.

Fans really came alive to boo Jimmy Uso when he cried and asked for forgiveness. Jimmy apologized and reached out for a handshake and the crowd protested even louder. Jey obliged, only to get super kicked by Jimmy.

Jimmy Uso vs. Jey Uso Grade: C+

Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair And Naomi Def. Damage CTRL

Damage CTRL was accompanied by Geisha Girls during their WrestleMania entrance, while Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Naomi received a big-time entrance as they were transported to the stage on a large platform.

Fans chanted “we want Jade!” as Cargill waited to enter the match. She made a hot tag and a comeback to a huge response. Jade Cargill has no choice but to be a major star in WWE. She is inevitable.

Cargill ran wild with an impressive splash and a Michinoku Driver to ooh’s and ah’s.

Bianca Belair reentered the match and got a loud response after using her hair to whip Damage CTRL.

Jade Cargill ultimately got the win with her Jaded finisher. A star is born (again).

Cargill, Bianca and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL Grade: B

Sami Zayn Def. GUNTHER

Sami Zayn shared a touching moment backstage as he spoke with his wife and son before the match. The single camera shot followed Sami as he received encouragement from Chad Gable and Kevin Owens. The audio of the moments were sketchy in the arena, but these moments didn’t need sound as fans roared for Zayn.

There were dueling chants of “let’s go GUNTHER” and “let’s go Sami!”

The first big nearfall of this heated match came when GUNTHER kicked out of the Helluva Kick.

Sami Zayn kicked out of multiple consecutive power bombs to an enormous pop. GUNTHER got heel heat for taunting his wife while in control of the match.

After taking a beating, Zayn fired up and made a spirited comeback as crowd heat reached a fever pitch.

Zayn screwed up a superplex/brainbuster spot in a scary-looking spot, but thankfully, GUNTHER was okay. Sami connected with a Helluva Kick shortly thereafter for the clean win. Amazing.
